iMac “Summer 2001” (Snow)

Summer 2001 saw the end of the line for the groundbreaking iMac G3. Housed in the “Kihei” convection-cooled case that debuted with the iMac G3Slot Load”, the “Summer 2001” models came in a choice of “Graphite” or “Snow” colors. As a low-end option to both the iMac G3 SE and later the iMac G4, they were powered by a 600 MHz IBM G3 processor, 256 MB PC100 RAM, 16 MB Rage 128 Ultra AGP video card, 24x CD-ROM optical drive and a 40 GB Ultra ATA hard disk drive. The baseline “Summer 2001” models outlasted their high-spec SE brethren by a few months while the eMac was waiting to debut in March 2002.

This “Snow” machine was purchased from NextStep Recycling in Eugene, OR. It features a 600 MHz G3 processor, 256 MB RAM and 40 GB hard disk drive. It dual-boots into Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.2 “Jaguar”.
