Macintosh 512ke

With the “e” denoting “enhanced”, the Macintosh 512ke was an incremental update to the Macintosh 512k. It was designed to fit the “low end” Macintosh tier opposite the “high end” Macintosh Plus. The Macintosh 512ke added an 800k double-sided floppy disk drive and supported it by way of the Macintosh Plus’ ROM chips. Unfortunately, it left out the hardware to enable those chips’ SCSI device support and expandable RAM.

This machine was purchased from the surplus section of Norvac Electronics in Salem, OR. It features an external 800k double-sided floppy disk drive and extended keyboard.
